Welcome to my blog!

I'm so glad you found me!

The Ultimate Fashionista blog was started in 2012 as creative outlet to share my personal style, outfit ideas, fashion tips, and a small piece of me with the world.  My main goal is to reach as many people as I can to help them create and refine their own personal style.

Style is my business and I love exploring all the venues in getting my message across.  I hope that my blog becomes a resource for many.  I look forward to the challenge of sharing my personal style perspectives with an interactive audience.

I hope it will inspire you and thank you in advance for all your love and support!

New Awlins Style

Hello again World!I know, I know, it’s been a minute since my last blog post, and I’m REALLY, REALLY sorry for my long absence. So much has happened since the beginning of the year… some great things, and unfortunately some not so great things, but God is good and all is finally getting back to normal in my life. 🙂 One of the wonderful things I managed to do recently is go on a short US trip which has been on my bucket list forever! If you don’t already know, fashion is my forte, but I’m also somewhat of a foodie. LOL!! What better place to go indulge than New Orleans? A few weeks ago one of my best girlfriends and I decided to head to The Big Easy for a Girls Trip, and boy did we have the time of our lives. Just a fair warning ahead that this is the first of two blog posts because I simply couldn’t sum up such a great trip into one. We arrived in town on a Thursday and the weather was perfect! The Royal St. Charles Hotel greeted us with a slushy drink and small bite of traditional king cake upon arrival which was a pleasant surprise. We got very lucky when we chose the hotel because of it’s ideal location and easy access to The French Quarter. Being only one block away allowed us to be able to enjoy all of the surroundings essentially by foot. After checking in we immediately began our hunt for some southern cajun, creole, seafood, and of course award winning local joints to satisfy... read more

YOU see YOU

Hello Dolls, I woke up thinking about my motto, which is “It doesn’t matter who see, pretend they don’t see, or who doesn’t acknowledge you.  YOU see YOU and that’s all that matters!” – theultimatefashionista I hope you all are having a great week so far.  My dear sister gifted me with this beautiful handmade Ankara dress from The Gambia, West Africa and I needed to style it.  I love the pattern and how it flairs out and is so comfortable.  The boots I found really did it justice!  They’re currently on sale for $20 USD  and if you join ShoeDazzle as a VIP, you can receive your first item for $10 USD.  What a steal!  Of course I wouldn’t leave you hanging… the deets are below. Cape Series – Evening of Elegance

Hello Loves, With the holiday season upon us, it’s only befitting I style a more elegant cape than what I’ve previously featured on my blog.  If you’re looking for a highly stylish alternative to a coat without wearing a fur, than a cape is just it! This black velvet cape is perfect for an evening on the town because it’s bold, mysterious, and adds the perfect amount of drama to take your dresses from ordinary to extraordinary.  Who would think such a simple piece could elevate an entire look in such an elegant way? Another added benefit to wearing a cape over a coat is how easy they are to wear. Draping them on over shoulders is so convenient for transitioning from outside to indoors. The cape I’ve styled is a vintage beauty but I’ve found some similar capes below that will achieve the same look. Of course if you need assistance finding another alternative or with styling for your upcoming event, you can reach me via this website or at theultimatefashionista@yahoo.com to schedule an appointment. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Cape Series – Be Your Own Superhero

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend.  My apologies on finally posting the second outfit from my cape series.  I had all intentions of posting earlier, but have been recovering from my recent trip to Dubai.  For this look I chose a super long plaid vintage cape, which reminds me of being a superhero.  Let’s face it guys, no one is going to save us in life.  There’s a Superhero inside all of us.  We just need the courage to put on the cape, rise up and be our own Superheroes. I’m a fan of all types of capes, but longer capes are harder to come by so if you have the opportunity to snag one I would recommend doing so.  I’ve posted a link to a similar style below.  The shoes add even more drama to this look. What do you think?   Would you wear something similar? Cape Series – Mix It Up

Greetings everyone! You asked for another cape series, so another series it is.  After all, I love you all so much so I aim to please!  🙂 Today I’m kicking off the first look with one of my favorite things to do which is mix patterns in an unorthodox way.  Who would ever think houndstooth and plaid could pair together so well?  This look is proof you can absolutely wear the two patterns together. Hopefully you’ll leave inspired to try this look or some variation of this mix.  Do you enjoy mixing patterns together too? Primping in Plaid

Hello Loves, I’m primping in plaid because it just happens to be one of my favorite patterns to wear in the fall. This years plaid trends are bigger checks mixed with brighter colors.  I love layering my looks for added texture.  This Cynthia Rowley jacket found at Marshalls, will definitely be on repeat this season.  Although it’s not available, I’ve put together some similar looks for you to shop below, because I can’t be primping all by myself.  🙂 Are you a fan of plaid?  If not, what are some of your favorite patterns for fall? Mural, Mural on the Wall

Happy Friday everyone, I’ve always loved street art, graffiti, and murals because of their creative, inspiring and unrestricted ability to capture my attention.  It’s been refreshing to see a lot of cities embracing colorful streets and walls by artists from all walks of life who are able to tell stories and express themselves in such a unique way. To my surprise, my recent visit to the Gestamani neighborhood of Cartagena, Columbia topped all of the places I’ve ever traveled to for having such an abundance of diverse beautiful artistic expressions.  It was such a cool neighborhood.  I’ve decided share some of my favorite murals from the trip.  I wish every country was this colorful!     Photography by SherriaTravels, Sherria29_Photography, SherriaAroundTheWorld What I’m Wearing: // Cartagena Headwrap // Fanm Djanm // Pom-Pom Hoop Earrings // J.Crew // Off Shoulder Crop Top/Maxi Skirt // ShoeDazzle // Keira Flat Gladiator Sandals // ShoeDazzle   Love, The Ultimate... read more

Go where you are CELEBRATED

Happy Tuesday everyone, Many of you know I celebrated my birthday last week with a trip to beautiful Cartagena, Columbia.  I’d been wanting to go there for years, but really didn’t know what to expect.  I can honestly say, Cartagena really surprised me.  If I had to sum up my entire experience into one phrase, it would be “Go where you are celebrated”. All women are embraced there, but I feel like women of color are truly celebrated in Cartagena.  There are African influences everywhere! In particular, billboards, breathtaking murals and beautiful pictures of women of color all around.  This is often taken for granted, but as a woman of color my trip to Cartagena was the first time I ever felt really embraced in a country.  Not only were women of color posted everywhere, people were extremely friendly, nice and helpful towards me.  Again, something I haven’t always experienced in other countries.  By the way, since there were so many beautiful murals, I’ll be posting another blog post of the murals, and the Walled City. Once of the major reasons why I’ve had this colorful, vibrant, and happy city on my bucket list for so long is because of the Afro-Columbian community that I wanted to learn more about, as well as where the african influences originated from.  I can be bit of a history fanatic at times, and as I’ve grown older my desire to learn more about it has grown exponentially. On my second day in Colombia, I took a tour to San Basilio de Palenque, which is an african village almost an hour outside of... read more

Give Me My Flowers

“Give me my flowers while I can still smell them” is what first came to mind when I saw this beautiful floral mural.  I don’t know how long this quote has been around, it still holds true today.  We should always strive to show people how much they mean to us while we can. On another note, it’s my birthday month and I’m strutting into the next year just as happy as I can be! Getting older is such a privilege, and I never take that for granted.  This floral mural was perfect the perfect backdrop for this vintage style monochrome outfit.  I’ve always been a huge fan of black and white because it’s so eye-catching, classy and timeless.  Since some of these pieces are vintage, I’ve found some similar pieces to recreate this look.  I hope you enjoy this post darlings!  If you do, please leave me a comment letting me know how so. Until next time, Muah!
